The UNIX-HATERS Handbook

If you have not read "The UNIX-HATERS Handbook" you really should. It is a very amusing book. Of course you won't because its out of print, and difficult to find. I know, I looked. Earlier today I mentioned that I wanted it to Stuart Cheshire who asked "Do you want a copy?"

I was shocked, and quite frankly I really couldn't accept such a thing, so I told him. I then told me that when he had moved from the 9 group to the X group he had felt it necessary to buy copies for everyone in the building, and had attempt to do so, only to find out it is out of print. Consequently, he has a standing order for it on half.com. He currently has five copies ;-)

The punchline: I am getting a copy of "The UNIX-HATERS Handbook". And if you have a copy you want to get rid of put it on half.com, Stuart will buy it.

There are also marginally-sanitized archives of the Unix-Haters mailing list (from which the Handbook was drawn) floating around on the web. There's some entertaining material that didn't make it into the book if you feel like wading through them.

There are plenty of times I wish the list was still around.

Alternatively, you could read JWZ's live journal and writings for another take on hating Unix.
