Of New Years and Weekends

Well, I know its a bit late to be discussing New Years resolutions, but what the heck. My New Years resolution involved getting more exercise. I had already started an exercise kick before that (I actually bought a Lifecycle C9i for my apartment). Ever since I got back from vacation I have been averaging about 12 miles a day, which seems good. Also, the fitness center I belong is distributing pedometers to people who want them, so I am trying to do 10,000 steps a day. I generally feel pretty good.

One of the interesting side effects of biking is that I have a bunch of dead time to kill. I actually answered the phone when AT&T called to ask me if I wanted to switch my local service. I had been thinking about trying to get an unlimited long distance plan, but I hadn't gotten around to it. Since I had time to kill I managed to negotiate a combined unlimited local and long distance plan with more than half my bill discounted for the first several months. I can also watch more TV and not feel guilty about it. The more I bike on a stationary, the more time I have to watch stuff. This weekend I bought the uncut first season of Sailor Moon (subtitled). I have seen the US version, but never could justify the time to view 46 episodes again. Now their perfect, material I want to watch, but I have seen so I don't care if I miss a beat or two.

Buzz: thanks. My advice, go out and buy a $2500 exercise bike. It certainly keeps me motivated ;-)

Paul: AT&T unlimited is $42. That 2 extra dollars buys me a line that is compatible with modems (for TiVo, etc) and a reasonable backup for when my cable modem goes down. Vonage would be cheaper if I totally dumped the line, but if I want one for a backup then vonage plus a cheap landline ends up being more expensive. All the other (cheap) VoIP companies have significant reliability issues.

screw at&t -- get vonage ($40/month, unlimited) or one of the other VOIP companies (even cheaper).

The exercise is working--it was noticable last time I saw you. Keep it up! Now if only I could do the same :-).
