LLVM ppc

Well it took some doing, but I can discuss the cool project I alluded to some months ago. Nate sent out the announcement today. In January I convinced several people to work with me on writing a PPC backend for LLVM. I managed to get hello world compiled and working some months ago, and Nate did a tremendous amount of fix up and work since then. Its just very, very cool. I may discuss more of the bring up process at some point, but right now I am just sitting back and feeling satisfied ;-)

Nicholas: Thanks

Barry: Because I use CSS to layout my webpage, and only test it under browsers that run under Mac OS X. Internet Explorer on Windows has a lot of well known CSS alignment issues (oddly IE5 for Mac is much better at CSS layout. Microsoft uses two totally different engines, Trident on Windows, and Tasman on Mac OS. Tasman was widely considered to be more standards compliant, too bad they discontinued development on it), and since I don't have easy access to a Windows machine to test it I don't bother. Even if I did I am not sure I would, since its a personal website, and for me designing physical layouts is like pulling teeth, so keeping two sets of CSS (one for sane browsers, and one for IE) seems like an exercise in suffering ;-)

If you are such a computer genius, why does the text on your site get cut off by the calendar and archives list on the right hand side of the screen?

Congrats to you, Nate and Misha. Misha and Chris mentioned to me a while back that "some guy from Apple" was working on the PPC backend but I had no idea it was you.

Hoping to get stuck into some cool LLVM-related work in a few weeks, after I get a paper out...
