I just got the first two CDs from my Amazon. One was a Stephen Lynch CD, the other was Neutral Milk Hotel. Maybe I should make a CD recommendations page. I am kind of upset that it turns out nobody has the Barcelona CD I want in stock, ah well.
I have not gotten XMLTV running yet, because I am getting test failures for XML::Parser from CPAN. I will have to look into it a bit more over the weekend.
I have been sort of busy. I went out to LA, and visited some friends, it was really good to see people. To everyone I saw there, thanks for a great weekend ;-)
I just placed an order at Amazon for a whole bunch of random hard to find CDs, and I have decided I passionately hate their interface for shipping things. I really wish I could specifically manage grouping, or tell it not to hold a package for 6 weeks for one item, even if I do need to pay extra, without also decoupling items that will be available within a day of each other.
Formac appear to have finally released an applescriptable application for the Formac Studio line. Originally it was supposed to be part of their big thousand dollar product, which appears to have been cancelled, which is good for me since I did not need any of its features, except applescriptability. I will have to look at XMLTV tonight and see if I can do what I want, then order a Formac Studio DV/TV.
I have been experimenting with some lowlevel stuff in Mac OS X, and my brain is not switching back and forth between assembly and scheme so well, so I have just been doing clean up on transtator, nothing amazingingly interesting
I just did a lot more work on the per page preferences, the macro system, and bits of the system. I have also rewritten my amazon macros, so my recommendation pages now match the main page.
Next I will probably implement inline rendering so I can write macros to use within stories. I have found that despite the fact that editting stories in the middle of the interpretter is subpar, it is good enough for me, and so I have been working on other bits of the system. I have been doing some clean up in the webserver so that I can support POSTs and such, but since it does not aide me much it will be slow.
I know I have not updated the page much lately. Things have been busy at work, and I went to a great party this week, so I have not worked on transtator's code much this week.
I saw 24 Hour Party People last night. It was very cool. I wish it had been a little more New Order focused (what can I say, I am a much bigger fan of New Order than I am of the Happy Mondays). I recommend it for anyone who likes that sort of music, or the rave scene in general.
Another day, another few improvements and fixes. The blogroll can now tell what page it is on and bold out the link, my rdfs are now much better (they are basically equivalent to what Radio outputs), I cleaned up the news story data structures some in preparation for some new features, and I started cleaning up the pieces I want in the supported macro api from my blogs internals (I am writing certain things, such as the blogroll as macros, to make sure I export a sufficently rich interface). I also cleaned up some of the upstream hacks I am currently using.
I had some friends over tonight. I bought 3 more wavebirds and we played Super Smash Brothers Melee. If there were a few more good four player games for GameCube it would be really nice. I think some more are on the way soon ;-)
I have just puit a new source dump up in the usual place. This code dump includes a bunch of new features includeing
It still is not ready for general usage, but it is progressing quite quickly now, and the total number of lines of code has been decreasing ;-)
I just wrote the code for a blogroll macro. Right now it is attached to my theme through a nasty hack, but now that I have a macro I suppose I will need to write the code for loading user macros. Also, I know I keep saying it, but I really need to get the dependency based upstreaming working.
I have made a number of changes, I am getting ready to do a new source dump. I have significantly overhauled the local webserver, and have working themeing and can load user written dynamic pages from disk. I also changed a large amount of the page gen code, fixed some stylesheet problems, and revised my default template. I have to concede I cheated and uploaded the image by hand, I still need to implement a dependency analysis based upload system.
I just made the last set of changes to the core to fix some bugs in my codegen. I will try to clean up the RDF similiarly soon.
I just integrated my first cut of theme support, and some fixes to the webserver so that it can find an on disk file and use that for dynamic content (until now it used hardcoded paths). I need to make a few more changes to webserver so that it can do what it need to do then I will move on to make the upstreamer work based on a dependency graph from pages in the webserver. I will also need to actually write a decent theme, this one is pretty bare.
I was doing laundry tonight. When I went to get it out of the drier the door to the laundry room was locked (nobody has locked the laundry room in the last 6 months, so that was annoying in and of itself). I got my out key, but could not open the door. I then looked at the note I had gotten last week about my apartment complex changing the keys for the fitness center, and noticed they were also changing the key to the laundry room. I am supposed to get my new key on thursday. Looks like I may have to go to and request it tomorrow morning. My cloths are going to be wrinkled (more than normal even). Argh.
This is interesting. It sounds to me like it is one of the most significant Number Theoretic results in the last several hundred years. Lets see if it proves to be true, but it seems to me that the runtimes are very fast, this does not bode well for current encryption scheme.
Well, a few more people seem to be interested in transtator. I think I need to write a quick README and maybe a TODO file for it. I have not done too much work on it since the weekend, since I have been pretty busy. I am getting to the threshold of how many stories can appear on my front page and still look reasonable though, so I will have to do something about archive pages as well.
I also need to go through and spell/grammar check my entries. Writing blog entries while sleep deprived, and in the middle of a scheme interpretter is probably sub-optimal.
I just got comments working, so now if anyone wants to let me know what they think they can. I accidentally wiped the older comments as part of upgrading recently, but I will attempt to ensure that does not happen again in the future
Also I want to apologize for the malformed rdfs earlier today, if you had a good aggregator you should have been fine, if you had a bad one they might have crashed it. Of course since nobody actually subscribes that is probably not an issue.
I have put a new source tarball up here. Its under a BSD License, and requires a PLT scheme (I use Dr and Mz) as well as XchemeRPC. If anyone does anything with it please submit any changes back to me. It is still not quite a the point where a beginner can something up, I hope to have that soon.
Well I have written a new preferences system so I can remove all my personal info from the code. I have done that, once I go over it just to be sure I will tar it up and put it online. Probably tonight or tomorrow.
I have written some new code to queue upstreams, and to publish, upstream, and ping weblogs.com from a single command. I should be able to add the code to make this register with an RCS server pretty easily (currently I use information I entered by hand for my config). I am also now generating and upstreaming an rss.xml file (so all 3 of you who subscribe to my page are getting updates again), but I think I might have a a few improvements to make to the output.
Soon I will be back to hacking on the local web server and theming, so that I can write stories more easily, and the page will look prettier ;-)
This post is as much a test of my new code as it an update, so here goes nothing...
I need to make a better interface for editting stories ;-) I now have embedded anchors in the page, as soon as I have written the code to generate the archive pages I will start exposing permalinks again. For the time being I am just keep my old pages around in static form so that if anyone has any permalinks they still work, it seemed like the best thing to do since I cannot import them currently.
Bought the Armitage Dual-Matrix/Poly-Matrix bundle, if I had rewritten my amazon macros and implemented macro processing there would be a a link to the Amazon page for the item right here ;-)
Well it looks like I could not upstream the last entry. It is unclear to me the exact problem. I fixed one bug in XchemeRPC, but that was not the only problem. Since I cannot stream my previous full page to anything I assume that I have some bad data, which would be consistent with some of the import corruption. Oh well...
I dropped my imported data, I will try again later. Hopefully this will upstreams. Of course since I am not yet updating my rdf feed no one will notice, but c'est la vie.
I know I have not updated in a really long time, but I have very good reason for it. Radio stopped being able to upstream, it seems that it ate part of it self. Rather than trying to fix it I have been pusing through to make transtator work well enoughto use. This is the first push using transtator. It is not pretty, but I should be able to make the webpage look a bit nicer in the next few days.
I am still having some trouble with importing Radio data, as you can see by some of the stories below being corrupted. Radio does some strange things internally.
Currently I have to enter stories directly from wthin the interpretter core, I have not written the macros to expose permalinks, mailtos, discussion threads, are build archive threads. I hope to have more time to work on some of those in the near future.
I do have an xmlStorageSystem that seams to work, but for the moment it appears I will be manually invoking it. Everything is coming together, but there is still a lot to do. Once I have fixed up a few details in te preferences system so I can move all of my personal data back out of the code I will post source dump.
