Work has been crazy, since we have been getting ready for WWDC. Its always a mad house, but we always pull it off. Of course everything else in life gets complicated right when I have no time for things.
My brother is running for office in Massachusetts. I just sent him a campaign contribution. I wonder if its tax deductible. I'll find out some other time.
I have been thinking about adding some more categories to my blog. Particularly an uncensored section, and a quotes section, and maybe a technical section. The debate I have is whether I would post more if I thought I was not clogging people's aggregators with stuff they find uninteresting. I also just purchased NetNewsWire Pro, which may alter my posting habits...
Especially if I have 15% off coupon. At least I showed some self restraint, I only bought $120 of stuff...
Last night I went to Ruby Skye and saw BT which was very cool. The club is in an old theatre, with dance floors on the main level as well as the balcony. There were 3 full bars, as well as a number of tables with bottles of various bears as well as water (at $3.50 a pop the water was almost as expensive as bear). They also had a cigar lounge (cool, but not my thing), and an oxygen bar. I never had seen an oxygen bar, so I had to give it a try.
I have to say, it was a bit of a let down. First off, if I thought the water was expensive, than the oxygen was highway robbery ;-) . Basically they hand you a nasal cannula that you breath through, then they have several canisters of water mixed with various scents that they bubble air through into the tubing leading to the cannula. They had lime, which is one of my favorite scents. At th end I could tell my nose had been stimulated by something acerbic, and throughout most of it I felt as though I was on the edge of buzz, but never quite made it there. Oh well, its one of those things people should probably try once, but its probably not worth paying for more than 10 minutes.
I have been pysched about this ever since Geoff showed me the beta last week. Check out the Challenge of the SuperFriends.
So, my personal network is now above 50,000 users. A large amount of that is through the (indirect) use of proxy users. People seem to have created to sorts of proxies. On is distinctly a group, like "Hotgirlcrew", which has various girls assign themselves to as friends, and acts as a hub for them. The other is through pseudo-celebrities. False profiles for people like Buffy, or God, or Jesus (and btw, God is way more popular than Jesus). Since a lot of people just find them amusing and become friends, they become nexuses. I am not sure how feel about them. At one level it increases my personal network significantly, though not as much as it could since I refuse to directly befriend them. At another level it perverts the whole social networking thing, since they cause arbitrary links.
At this point I hate almost everything else that channel does, but I love the Movie Awards. Gollum's acceptance speech had me in stitches
Thats how many people Friendster says are in my personal nettwork. All that comes from 15 seed freinds, though I still have one outstanding, and a few people who I think are on under pseudonyms. Not bad for one session of filling out friends.
I finally setup a Friendster account today. It is really fascinating. What I have been looking for are "loops." People who am I am connected to through multiple disjoint groups of people. I found it pretty shocking that excluding the link through me, Barb (who I grew up next door to) and EJ (who I work with) were only one degree away from showing up in each other's personal networks, via a chain of people I have never met. Very cool. I have found a few other loops, but since I don't have many friends added yet its limited. I am pretty shocked how connected everything is. So if you know me, and your on Friendster, add me to your friend list ;-)
