The Good, the Bad, and the Life

I fell asleep really early last night (for those of you who know me that is a pretty rare thing). I had been feeling pretty gross all week, but an extra 4 or 5 hours of sleep seems to work miracles. I did some maintenance on the my blog, as evidenced by the Atom link in syndication, and my new FOAF. I am really looking forward to MT 3.0 with comment accounts and full Atom support.

I've been (along with some friends) putting in a bunch of hours on a little personal project. Its pretty cool, hopefully I will post more about it once all the details are worked out ;-)

If your in the Cambridge/Somerville area

My brother is running for state representative. Check out his campaign website. He's a pretty bright guy, and I highly recommend him to all eligible voters ;-)

Of New Years and Weekends

Well, I know its a bit late to be discussing New Years resolutions, but what the heck. My New Years resolution involved getting more exercise. I had already started an exercise kick before that (I actually bought a Lifecycle C9i for my apartment). Ever since I got back from vacation I have been averaging about 12 miles a day, which seems good. Also, the fitness center I belong is distributing pedometers to people who want them, so I am trying to do 10,000 steps a day. I generally feel pretty good.

One of the interesting side effects of biking is that I have a bunch of dead time to kill. I actually answered the phone when AT&T called to ask me if I wanted to switch my local service. I had been thinking about trying to get an unlimited long distance plan, but I hadn't gotten around to it. Since I had time to kill I managed to negotiate a combined unlimited local and long distance plan with more than half my bill discounted for the first several months. I can also watch more TV and not feel guilty about it. The more I bike on a stationary, the more time I have to watch stuff. This weekend I bought the uncut first season of Sailor Moon (subtitled). I have seen the US version, but never could justify the time to view 46 episodes again. Now their perfect, material I want to watch, but I have seen so I don't care if I miss a beat or two.

Poked and prodded

I went to the allergist today. They drew a bunch of lines on my back with a marker, and more or less played tic-tac-toe with sharp scratchy things. Then they told me I was non-reactive, and that I would need to be on antihistamines for at least another two months.

Back in the groove

Well, I am back on the west coast, and am almost done catching up on work email and such. I went to Town Hall this morning to watch the MacWorld keynote. I have gone to every MacWorld SF since I started working for Apple, but this year things are looking too busy. Maybe thursday, I need to figure my schedule out.

Vacations are nice

Its incredible. In the last 3 weeks I have been vegging out, watching a ton of TV, seen more movies than I can recall, visited a bunch of friends, hosted a New Years party, and read more than books than in the 3 months prior. I seem to be incredibly "productive" when I don't have to go to work ;-)

I saw Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Peter Pan, and Paycheck. I had high expectations for LotR:RotK, and was not disappointed. There were some scenes I had wished then had left in, but it was a lot of fun, if a little long. I really enjoyed Peter Pan. It was thematically very close to the book (much more so than that abomination that Disney made). Now I need to go and reread the books. Paycheck had enough plot holes that if it were a garment made out of plot it would be in tattered pieces on the side of the road.

New Years was great. I made caramel chocolate brownies which were a hit (people asked for the recipe), and Ben made (with a little assisstance from me) a Brown Lamb Chili/Hungarian stew for dinner, which was also very good. We played a bunch of DDR as well as some Mario Kart, Frequency, and F-Zero. There only 9 of us, so we ended up driving to Penn's Landing to watch the fireworks. I have never gone to Penn's Landing for New Years before, and the fireworks were spectacular.

Well, I have to pack. Back to the West Coast tomorrow, and work on Monday...
